The Nigerian Studies Program
Welcome to The Nigeria Studies Program
This is our comprehensive capacity development program for those interested in broadening their understanding of Nigeria for professional, educational, and other career-related purposes.
Nigerian Studies is the focused study of Nigeria, covering all aspects of the country’s existence including its history (ancient and modern), culture, languages, economy, politics, geography and environment, with the aim of providing a comprehensive, and empirically-based, understanding of the country’s essence; it’s problems and prospects; its past, present, and future; and its place in the region, the continent and the world
As the largest black and African country in the world, with some of the highest and most intriguing levels of linguistic, cultural and religious diversity found anywhere on the globe, Nigeria is a society deserving of its own area of study. The dynamics of a country with such a profile will hold vital lessons for a world increasingly burdened with finding non-violent solutions to the challenge of managing diversity in civic spaces that are rapidly growing more complex. The future of our human civilization will depend on these lessons as surely as it does on technological advances.
The DCC Nigeria Studies Program provides a solid foundation for –
Professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of Nigeria prior to working in Development, Government, Policy Making, Education, Civic Engagement, or International Diplomacy, in relation to the country, or who, already working in these areas, seek to upgrade their capacity for effective engagement.
